Distraction Can Cure Your Cravings

key-lime-pie.bmpHow many times have you had a craving and gave in to it? Many times I bet. We all have cravings and they can be really difficult to resist. However if you have been able to distract yourself for 10 minutes or so it is likely the craving would have passed.

Here is what happened to me last week. I was home with my family in Massachusetts for Christmas. But it wasn’t just my family and I … there were also over a dozen different kinds of cookies that my stepmother got from a cookie swap, a key lime pie (which I love) and a chocolate cake (chocolate is my weakness!). I had a full dinner and a piece of key lime pie. The pie got me going … I wanted more. I kept thinking about all the cookies, pie and cake and knew I was headed for trouble! I decided to distract myself to see if the craving would pass, so I logged on to the internet to work on a project. Before I knew it, an hour had passed and I totally lost the craving for sweets.

Many of us get cravings now and then for various foods. Come up with a plan as to how you can distract yourself the next time you get a craving.

Suggestions as how to distract yourself:
1. Reseach something on the internet
2. Call a friend
3. Give yourself a manicure
4. Get out and take a walk
