Chicken Teriyaki Lunch: Healthy Choice or Not?

I was tired of the same old 1/2 turkey sandwich and small soup special for lunch. So I decided to try a teriyaki chicken lunch special at my local Japanese restaurant. Being the curious nutritionist I am, I had to “dissect” it and calculate the calories (and videotape my efforts). Guess how many calories it had?

Check out my video as I analyzed my lunch

So here is the calorie breakdown of my chicken teriyaki lunch special:
5 seafood shumai = 125 calories
2 cups rice = 500 calories
6  1/2 oz chicken (combo of white and dark meat, somewhat fatty) with a little teriyaki sauce = 425 calories
small salad with 1 T. orange dressing = 80 calories

A whooping total of 1200 calories!

I don’t think I’ll be having that for lunch again. If IREALLY had the urge for this meal, I’d have to split in half.
