I’m always on the lookout for healthy supermarket finds. Most of my clients (myself included) have hectic schedules and don’t spend a lot of time in the kitchen. So I’m especially interested in foods that can be made into quick meals. Of course, I want the products to be healthy. I realize that not everyone has the same food preferences. Some people want lower carb options, others dairy-free and others want portion controlled sizes. So I tried to include a few options for everyone. I’d love to hear what you think!

  1. Banza Rice.
    If you are trying to cut down on carbs, you might be tired of good ol’ cauliflower rice. Here’s a new rice to try – Banza rice made from chick peas! You may have already tried Banza pasta. This one is worth trying. It has 3x the protein, 2x the fiber, and nearly 30% fewer net carbs than white rice.  
    Ingredients: chick peas, potato starch, xanthum gums, sea salt.
    Nutrition: 1/4 cup dry: 170 cal, 3 gm fat, 30 gm carbs, 5 g fiber, 11 gm protein, 25 gm “net” carbs, 70 mg sodium (compare to brown rice: 3 gm protein, 3 gm carbs, 36 net carb gm)
  2. Almond Pasta by AlmondLoveWith.
    With 90% less carbs than traditional pasta, this is a great way to dig in to a fav food while nourishing your body!
    Ingredients: almond flour, pea protein isolate, oat fiber, egg whites, psyllium husk, xanthan gum
    Nutrition: 1/4 box (2 oz): 190 cal, 9 gm fat, 16 gm carbs, 13 gm fiber, 20 gm protein, 3 gm “net” carbs, 230 gm sodium (compare to brown rice: 3 gm protein, 3 gm carbs, 36 net carb gm)
  3. Trader Joe’s Everything But the Bagel Seasoning.
    Seasoning blend with sea salt, garlic, onion, sesame seeds, black sesame seeds, and poppy seeds. I’m obsessed with this and add it to everything – eggs, cauliflower rice, veggies.
  4. Trader Joe’s Chili Lime Seasoning.
    The perfect combo of chili, lime and salt. My favorite way to use it is sprinkled on avocados!
  5. TJ Cauliflower Bowls.
    Riced cauliflower is trending right now. Here’s a new product that makes a quick and tasty meal or side dish. Check out the different flavors!
  6. Trader Joe’s Spaghetti Squash Spirals.
    A delicious combo of spaghetti squash and butternut squash in a tomato sauce with a little parmesan cheese. It comes with a separate packet of more cheese if you want.
    Ingredients: spaghetti squash, butternut squash, tomato pulp, grana padana cheese (milk, salt, animal rennet, egg lysozyme), pumpkin puree, butternut squash puree, spices, heavy cream, carrot puree, butter, salt, onion powder, garlic powder, lemon juice concentrate, parsley.
    Nutrition: 1/3 container (3/4 cup): 100 cal, 4 gm fat, 11 gm carb, 3 gm fiber, 210 mg sodium, sugars 3gm, 0 gm added sugars, protein 5 gm.
  7. Kite Hill Greek Yogurt made from almonds.
    Most plant based yogurts are low in protein. Here’s a Greek yogurt made from almonds! While it’s not as high in protein as cow’s milk yogurt (15-20 grams), it’s higher than most plant based yogurts.
    Ingredients: Almond Milk (Water, Almonds), Tapioca Starch, Pectin, Locust Bean Gum, Agar, Live Active Cultures: S. Thermophilus, L. Bulgaricus, L. Acidophilus, Bifidobacteria.
    Nutrition: 5.3 oz: 160 cal, 10 gm fat, 8 am carbs, 4 gm fiber, 2 gm sugar, 0 gm added sugars, 11 gm protein, 121 gm calcium.
  8. Siggi’s Skyr Lactose Free Vanilla Yogurt.
    I’ve always wondered why there were no lactose free Greek yogurt considering approximately 70% of the population has some degree of lactose intolerance. Finally here’s a product! It’s brand new so may be hard to find for a while.
    Ingredients: Pasteurized Whole Milk, Pasteurized Cream, Organic Agave Nectar, Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla, Lactase Enzyme*, Fruit Pectin, Live Active Cultures
    Nutrition: 6 oz: 180 cal, 6 gm fat, 15 gm carbs, 11 gm sugar, 7 gm added sugar, 17 gm protein
  9. Siggi’s Skyr Banana & Cinnamon.
    No added sugar, 4%.  Yogurts with less added sugars are trending. And this one went a step further – NO added sugar or artificial sweeteners.
    Ingredients: Pasteurized Whole Milk, Pasteurized Cream, Bananas, Fruit Pectin, Cinnamon, Live Active Cultures
    Nutrition: 120 cal, 4 gm fat, 10 gm carbs, 5 gm sugar, 11 gm protein
  10. YQ  (Yoplait).
    Made with ultra-filtered milk, YQ is rich in protein. The flavored ones have 40% less sugar than most other flavored Greek yogurts. And they are 99% lactose free.
    Ingredients: Pasteurized Grade A Ultra-Filtered Milk, Yogurt Cultures (L. bulgaricus, S. thermophilus).
    Nutrition: 5.3 oz: 110 cal, 3 gm fat, 2 gm carbs, 1 gm sugar, 16 gm protein, fiber gm
    Pasteurized Grade A Ultra-Filtered Milk, Mangos, Cane Sugar, Sea Salt, Carrot Juice (for color), Pectin, Yogurt Cultures (L. bulgaricus, S. thermophilus), Natural Flavor.

  11. Green Giant Cauliflower Gnocchi + Trader Joe’s Cauliflower Gnocchi.
    These gnocchi are the perfect alternative so you can enjoy your favorite dish with fewer carbs. The varieties are made from 40%  (Green Giant) and 75% (Trader Joe’s) cauliflower. An easy, microwave ready dinner and you can add veggies or protein on the side. 
    Green Giant:
    Ingredients: Cauliflower, Water, Derum Wheat Semolina, Dried Cauliflower, Sea Salt
    Nutrition: 1 cup serving: 220 cal, 1.5 gm fat, 45 gm carbs, 13 gm sugar, 8 gm protein, fiber 5 gm
    Trader Jo’s:
    Ingredients: Cauliflower, Cassava Flour, Potato Starch, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Sea Salt
    Nutrition: 1 cup serving: 140 cal, 3 gm fat, 22 gm carbs, 1 gm sugar, 2 gm protein, 6 gm fiber
  12. Minute Organic Red Quinoa Brown Rice.
    This one is perfect for lazy peeps (like me) or those people who like need a little help with portion control. Kudo’s to Minute for coming up with these healthy options to white rice!
    Ingredients: Water, Organic Brown Rice, Organic Red Quinoa, Organic Sunflower Oil, Sea Salt, Organic Garlic Powder, Natural Flavoring, Organic Parsley, Organic Onion Powder, Salt, Sunflower Lecithin (Emulsifier).

  13. Ark Foods
    This veggie forward company values ethically farmed and local food. They have a few different products – a squash snack pack, veggie spaghetti, and mac n cheese. Ark Foods are a great options for easy meals ready in under five minutes. You can find the products in Whole Foods.
    Cauli Mac – Classic Cheddar, Gluten-Free:
    Cauliflower, water, potatoes, cashews, carrots, onions, vinegar, sea salt, natural flavor garlic.
    Nutrition: 1 container serving: 140 cal, 3.5 gm fat, 16 gm carbs, 4 gm sugar, 7 gm protein, 4 gm fiber
  14. Spindrift seltzer
    This brand makes the first sparkling water in the U.S. that’s made with real squeezed fruit. Here are their amazing flavors: cucumber, lemon, orange mango, raspberry lime, lime, cranberry raspberry, half & half (half tea & half lemon), strawberry, grapefruit, and blackberry!
    Ingredients: carbonated water, various fruit juices, occasionally a fruit puree
    Nutrition: varies on product: 2-17 cal, 1-4 gm carbs, 0-3 gm sugar
  15. Nut pods
    These dairy free, plant based creamers are the perfect alternative to half-and-half. Vanilla lemon, dark chocolate orange, cinnamon swirl, caramel, original, and hazelnut are some of their flavors. All flavors are under 10 calories and have just 1 gram of fat – that’s it! And they are yummy.
    Pumpkin Spice Flavor:
    Ingredients: Purified Water, Coconut Cream, Almond, Natural Flavors, Less than 2% of Acacia Gum, Sunflower Lecithin, Dipotassium Phosphate, Gellan Gum, Sea Salt
